NATIONAL AFFAIRS

  • India International Bullion Exchange [IIBX], India’s first International Bullion Exchange has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in GIFT-IFSC in Gandhinagar Gujarat.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the headquarters of International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
  • Point 5140 at Dras, in Kargil sector has been renamed as “Gun Hill” to commemorate the victory of Indian Armed Forces and to pay tribute to the sacrifice of the war heroes in “Operation Vijay 1999”.
  • ‘Responsible AI for Youth 2022’ program has been launched by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This program has been created by the National E-Governance Division, in collaboration with Intel India and Ministry of Education.
  • The Ministry of Steel established an Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of Jyotiraditya M. Scindia (Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel). The objective of this committee is to identify the issues pertaining to the steel sector, especially the secondary steel industry.
  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and Indian Navy Purpose has entered in MoU to boost self-reliance in key technologies and to collaborate on aviation research and development.
  • ‘AL NAJAH –IV’- 4th edition of India-Oman joint military exercise has been held in Rajasthan.
  • ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Power @2047’ has been initiated by the Ministry of Power, and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy [MNRE], to showcase the transformation, and achievements in the power sector in the last 8 years. It is part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • India’s Largest Online Herbarium Database, ‘Indian Virtual Herbarium’ has been Launched by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
  • The Government of India has made a Task Force to control the Monkey-pox cases in India, which will be headed by Vinod K. Paul.
  • Ex VINBAX 2022- The 3rd edition of Vietnam-India bilateral army exercise has been held at in Haryana.
  • Bharat Electronics Limited and Ministry of Defense has entered in MoU for the supply of 9 integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare [ASW] complex (IAC) MOD ‘C’ Systems. This system has been indigenously developed by BEL in association with the Defense Research and Development Organization.
  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited and National Tiger Conservation Authority made an MoU for transcontinental relocation of ‘Cheetah’ in its historical range in India. In this MoU eight to ten Cheetahs will be taken from Namibia and South Africa and will be introduced at Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh.
  • Tata Steel is set to manufacture ‘First-in-India’ 180-degree rotating seats for the Vande Bharat express trains.
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development has unveiled guidelines for the implementation of “Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0” (POSHAN 2.0). It aims to address the issues of malnutrition in children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
  • NAMASTE Scheme- to achieve zero sanitation fatalities in India and to ensure that all sanitation work is undertaken by skilled workers, this scheme has been launched by Government of India. The NAMASTE project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development [NIESBUD] and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL)has entered in MoU for developing entrepreneurial skills in the youth and enhance sustainable livelihood opportunities.
  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited [IOCL] & Bangladesh government has entered in MoU for an interim set up to facilitate emergency supply of petroleum goods.
  • Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, has released publications on Diamond Jubilee milestone of Indian Oil’s Guwahati Refinery & Golden Jubilee celebrations of Bongaigaon Refinery. ‘My Stamp’ was issued to Indian Oil Corporation by the Indian Post Department.
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs [CCEA] chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Fair and Remunerative Price [FRP] of sugarcane for sugar for the season 2022-23 (October-September) at Rs. 305/quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10.25%.
  • India at the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, expressed to intensify its climate action by presenting to the world five nectar elements (Panchamrit) of India’s climate action. This update to India’s existing Nationally Determined Contribution [NDC] translates the ‘Panchamrit’ announced at COP 26 into enhanced climate targets. The update is also a step towards achieving India’s long-term goal of reaching net-zero by 2070.
  • The Data Protection Bill, 2021, has been withdrawn from the Lok Sabha by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Communications & Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This bill was drafted by a committee that was headed by retired Supreme Court Justice BN Srikrishna. In late 2019, a revised version of the draft, titled the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 (the "PDPB"), was introduced in the Indian Parliament.
  • The World’s largest floating solar plant is set to be built on Omkareshwar Dam in Narmada River at Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh which will generate 600-Megawatt power by 2022-23.
  • Indian Navy’s women officers have created history after they completed the first-ever all-women independent maritime reconnaissance and surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea onboard a Dornier 228 aircraft. The mission was carried out by five officers of the Indian Navy Air Squadron (INAS) 314 based at Naval Air Enclave at Gujarat’s Porbandar

❱ The Dornier-228 aircraft was captained by the Mission Commander, Lieutenant Commander Aanchal Sharma.

  • Russia & Airports Authority of India [AAI] entered in contract for the supply of radio equipment. Under this contract, the company will manufacture 34 sets of Instrument Landing System [ILS] for the modernization of 24 airports in India.
  • Greater Male Connectivity Project, the largest infrastructure project in Maldives will be built at a cost of USD 500 million. It is funded by a USD 400 million Line of Credit from the Indian EXIM (Export Import) Bank and a USD 100 million grant from the Indian government.
  • Urban animal rescue centre (first-of-its-kind) Urban Animal Rescue Centre has been set up at Guindy National Park, Chennai, Tamil Nadu
  • The Indian Army has performed a Pan-Indian exercise called “Skylight” to test and evaluate its entire satellite-based communication network to ensure operational readiness in the wake of a future conflict.
  • Prasar Bharati & Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has entered in MoU to develop next generation broadcast solution and roadmap for digital terrestrial broadcasting consistent with emerging standards such as 5G Broadcast.
  • The Review Planning & Monitoring (RPM) meeting with States and State Power Utilities was held at New Delhi, under the chairmanship of R. K. Singh.
  • Aurangabad, Maharashtra became the first city of India to officially release the Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) data from Google. Google’s EIE feature helps cities to measure the carbon emission sources, conduct analysis and identify strategies to reduce emissions that help counter air pollution.
  • Army Design Bureau [ADB] of the Indian Army & the Drone Federation of India (DFI) has entered in MoU to develop high-impact drones for Indian soldiers.
  • Ex Vajra Prahar 2022′it is a 13th edition of the India-United States (US) Joint Special Forces exercise held in Himachal Pradesh.
  • The 12th edition of Def Expo 2022 is set to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in month of October.
  • 106 years old Astronomical Observatory in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar has not been inscribed on UNESCO’s list of endangered heritage.
  • ‘Audio Visual Co-Production Treaty’ has been signed between India and Australia to promote co-production of films.

  • Government of India has set a target to raise the share of natural gas in the energy mix to 15% in 2030 from the current share of about 6.3%.
  • India Meteorological Department [IMD], Japan and the United Nations Development Program [UNDP] have jointly launched a new initiative to accelerate climate action in 10 states and Union Territories across India.
  • ‘SMILE-75 Initiative’ is a Shelter Home (i.e., Rain Basera) near Nizammudin Metro Station in New Delhi has been launched by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
  • Ministry of Finance has released a notification that those who pay income tax will not be allowed to enroll in the Government’s Social Security Scheme Atal Pension Yojana [APY] from October 1, 2022.
  • Tamil Nadu government has notified Agasthyamalai Elephant Reserve as its 5th Elephant Reserve on the occasion of World Elephant Day 2022 (12 August).
  • Asia’s largest Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in the Sangrur district of Punjab has started commercial production at village Bhuttal Kalan. The plant supplies CBG to the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) outlet.
  • The Border Road Organization (BRO) is making a road map to construct a first-of-its-kind road stretch using steel slag in Arunachal Pradesh border. The project is being initiated after the success of using 100% steel slag on a port connectivity road in Gujarat state whose length is 1.2 km which was completed by CSIR-CRRI.
  • This year India has celebrated its 76th Independence Day on 15th August 2022 to mark the country’s freedom from nearly two centuries of British colonial rule. On this occasion Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led the celebrations from Red Fort in New Delhi and addressed the nation from Red Fort in New Delhi. This is his ninth address as the prime minister.

❱ PM Narendra Modi gave the slogan “Jai Anusandhan” i.e., innovation and urged the nation to move forward while focusing on the “Panch Pran” (5 pledges) for the upcoming 25 years.

  • India has added 11 more wetlands to the list of Ramsar sites to make a total of 75 such sites in the country. Interestingly there are 75 Ramsar Sites in 75th Year of Independence India. The 11 Indian wetlands which have been designated as new Ramsar sites are as follow:
    1. Tampara Lake in Odisha;
    2. Hirakud Reservoir in Odisha;
    3. Ansupa Lake in Odisha;
    4. Yashwant Sagar in Madhya Pradesh;
    5. Chitrangudi Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu;
    6. Suchindram Theroor Wetland Complex in Tamil Nadu;
    7. Vaduvur Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu;
    8. Kanjirankulam Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu;
    9. Thane Creek in Maharashtra;
    10. Hygam Wetland Conservation Reserve in Jammu and Kashmir;
    11. Shallbugh Wetland Conservation Reserve in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Early Childhood Development Conclave, Paalan 1000 National Campaign and Parenting App has been launched in Mumbai, Maharashtra by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. India has taken rapid strides in reducing child mortality since 2014 from 45 per 1000 live births to 35 per 1000 live births in 2019.
  • Mandla, a district in Madhya Pradesh (MP), which is a tribal-dominated region has become India’s first full functionally literate district.
  • Contract between India and France has been made to Support International Transport Forum's Activities in the Indian Transport Sector.
  • Goa has become the 1st ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified State; while Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu have become the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified Union Territory in India under Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • Jharkhand has become the 1st state in India to use blockchain technology for tracking the seed distribution programme.
  • Ministry of Defense has unveiled the Scales of Accommodation -2022, which authorizes the construction of facilities for the operational, functional, training, administrative, living, and recreational needs of Defense Personnel.
  • Border Security Force & Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has entered in MoU to ensure the safety and security of booking data for BSF personnel with low cancellation charges and provided an online portal with a credit facility of 60 days.
  • NAFIS- National Automated Fingerprint Identification System which has been developed by National Crime Records Bureau, has been launched by Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on the occasion of a 2- day National Security Strategies Conference 2022.
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) & ExxonMobil Corporation has entered in MoU for an exploration of oil and gas in the deep sea on India’s East and West coasts.
  • India’s 1st Composite Indoor Shooting Range has been launched by Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Technology Development Board (a statutory body under the Department of Science and Technology) supports its 1st Aquaculture Project for ‘Advanced, Intensive, All Male Tilapia Aquaculture Project with Israeli Technology’.

  • Delhi International Airport Limited has launched the beta version of the DigiYatra app for Android. Through this Delhi International Airport Limited is among the first few airports to introduce this system in India. This will facilitate the boarding process faster and more seamless. The customer’s face will act as their documents, like ID proof, Vaccine proof and also act as a boarding pass.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre to the nation at Mohali, Punjab, with the aim of offering high cancer care to inhabitants of Punjab and neighboring States/Union Territories.
  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change unveiled Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 which replace Batteries (Management and Handling) Rules, 2001 to ensure environmentally management of waste batteries. The rules’ function based on the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility. It mandates that all waste batteries to be collected and sent for recycling/refurbishment, and prohibits disposal in landfills and incineration.
  • The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has become the 1st amongst States/UTs to establish an Atal Tinkering Lab in partnership with the government think tank NITI Aayog; on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis.
  • RailTel (under the Ministry of Railways) & CloudExtel partnered to launch India’s first shared Radio Access Network (RAN) solution for congested locations to have better network usage.

  • Airports Authority of India Signs MoU with Sweden for collaboration in aviation technology.
  • The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar has been laid the foundation stone for the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh through video conferencing.
  • The 38th meeting of the Ministerial Level Joint Rivers Commission of India and Bangladesh has been held in Delhi after a gap of 12 years. The meeting was preceded by Water Resources Secretary-level interaction held on 23rd August 2022.

  • Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (under the Ministry of Ayush) & Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has been enter in MoU for Inter-Ministerial cooperation for promotion and facilitation of ‘One Herb, One Standard’.
  • The 10th National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise –SAREX- 2022 was conducted by Indian Coast Guard   for two days in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

  • Odisha has signed MoU with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry [FICCI] for upcoming Make in Odisha Conclave 2022 (3rd edition).
  • Andaman Nicobar Command (ANC) & Airport Authority of India (AAI) has entered in MoU to boost inter-island connectivity under UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) Scheme in Port Blair, the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Tripartite Agreement between Arunachal Pradesh with NITI Aayog, and Reach to Teach organization for a large-scale transformation in school education has been initiated. It was done on the 2nd year anniversary of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • Mission Bhumiputra’-launched by Assam government; a digital way to issue digitized caste certificates to students.
  • West Bengal & Maharashtra has entered in Mou to prevent the migration and trafficking of women between the two states, where a lot of movement of people takes place.
  • Larsen & Toubro Limited & Gujarat government has entered in MoU to set up an Information Technology and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) Park in Vadodara, Gujarat.
  • Karnataka Animal Husbandry Minister has adopted 31 cows in the government and private goshalas (cow shelters) with one from each district under Punyakoti Dattu Yojana (cow adoption) Portal. Karnataka became the first state in the country to implement the Punyakoti Adoption Scheme.
  • The Uttar Pradesh government is set to launch the Panchamrut Yojana, with the goal of doubling farmers’ income through the implementation of cost-effective technical measures and the promotion of co-cropping methods.
  • Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved Hollongi Greenfield Airport as Donyi Polo Airport. It will showcase old indigenous reverence on the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo).
  • Andhra Pradesh government & National Institute for Smart Government [NISG] has entered in MoU as a part of YSR Jagananna Saswatha Bhu Hakku Bhu Raksha scheme. This scheme aims to provide litigation-free land ownership.
  • Nethanna Ku Bima”- which offers insurance coverage to handloom and power loom weavers. For the first time in India, the Government of Telangana has introduced this scheme.
  • Renaming of Konaseema as Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district by Andhra Pradesh government.
  • One Road One Week’ Initiative- launched by Delhi Lieutenant Governor; it is initiative of the New Delhi Municipal Council. NDMC will repair and undertake maintenance work along footpaths, pavements and central verges.
  • The government of Kerala is set to launch “Kerala Savari”, the government’s own e-taxi service, an alternative to the popular corporate online cab service. This is the first such initiative by any state government in India.
  • UMEED Market Place” - inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir under AVSAR (Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region) Scheme of Airport Authority of India.
  • Governments of Assam and Mizoram have made a joint statement to resolve the boundary dispute between the two states.
  • Odisha government & National Institute of Ocean Technology [NIOT]has made an MoU for protecting its coastline.
  • Cheerag Scheme (Chief Minister Equal Education Relief, Assistance and Grant) for EWS Students was launched by Haryana government.
  • Flipkart signs MoU with Varanasi, Government of Uttar Pradesh under the Samarth program to empower National market access for artisans, weavers, and people with disabilities.
  • Meghalaya will host the 2nd edition of the North East Olympics 2022 in Shillong, from October 30, 2022, to November 06, 2022.
  • IIT Guwahati, Assam and All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE] has made an MoU to provide solutions to problems of accessing water, electricity and internet for the AICTE-affiliated technical institutions in North-East India.
  • Cricketer Rishabh Pant has been appointed as Brand Ambassador of Uttarakhand.
  • Karnataka government has launched new schemes on sanitation, nutrition and schemes for well-being of farmers, labourers and soldiers.

  • Government of Rajasthan & Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVN Limited) have entered in MoU for the development of 10,000 MW (MegaWatt) Renewable Energy (RE) projects.
  • “Lucky Bill App” launched by Kerala government to encourage consumers to upload invoices in a bid to curb Goods and Service Tax (GST) evasion. It will help in boosting tax collection and also enable the government to examine the status of tax return filings with the help of bills uploaded by people.
  • Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), in Bengaluru, Karnataka & Chhattisgarh Government have entered in MoU to set up central India’s largest regional testing laboratory and testing centre at Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
  • Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) (under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions) & Arunachal Pradesh Government have entered in MoU to create a “District Good Governance”.

Arunachal Pradesh has been designated 2022- 23 as the year of e-governance and has already deployed a 100 % e-office, as well as e-assembly and e-cabinet modules, in the state civil secretariat.

  • Tamil Nadu Launches Footwear & Leather Products Policy 2022 at the Tamil Nadu Footwear and Leather Sector Conclave 2022 with the aim of making the state a preferred destination for the manufacturing of footwear and leather goods in Asia.
  • Village Defence Guards scheme (VDGS) 2022 launched by Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government, to organize a small group of volunteer armed civilians in identified villages along the borders as well as in in-depth areas of the Jammu division.
  • Jharkhand & British High Commissioner has signed an MoU to award the Chevening Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda (MGJSM) Scholarship to five meritorious scholars belonging to the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward class and minorities in the Jharkhand.
  • “Make India No1 Mission” launched by Delhi government. The mission aims to make India the number one country in the world.
  • Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) & the Nagaland Government has entered in MoU to collaborate and unleash the potential of entrepreneurial talents in Nagaland.

  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs [CCEA] chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Fair and Remunerative Price [FRP] of sugarcane for sugar for the season 2022-23 (October-September) at Rs. 305/quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10.25%.
  • India at the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, expressed to intensify its climate action by presenting to the world five nectar elements (Panchamrit) of India’s climate action. This update to India’s existing Nationally Determined Contribution [NDC] translates the ‘Panchamrit’ announced at COP 26 into enhanced climate targets. The update is also a step towards achieving India’s long-term goal of reaching net-zero by 2070.
  • The Data Protection Bill, 2021, has been withdrawn from the Lok Sabha by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Communications & Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This bill was drafted by a committee that was headed by retired Supreme Court Justice BN Srikrishna. In late 2019, a revised version of the draft, titled the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 (the "PDPB"), was introduced in the Indian Parliament.
  • The World’s largest floating solar plant is set to be built on Omkareshwar Dam in Narmada River at Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh which will generate 600-Megawatt power by 2022-23.
  • Indian Navy’s women officers have created history after they completed the first-ever all-women independent maritime reconnaissance and surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea onboard a Dornier 228 aircraft. The mission was carried out by five officers of the Indian Navy Air Squadron (INAS) 314 based at Naval Air Enclave at Gujarat’s Porbandar.
    • The Dornier-228 aircraft was captained by the Mission Commander, Lieutenant Commander Aanchal Sharma.
  • Russia & Airports Authority of India [AAI] entered in contract for the supply of radio equipment. Under this contract, the company will manufacture 34 sets of Instrument Landing System [ILS] for the modernization of 24 airports in India.
  • Greater Male Connectivity Project, the largest infrastructure project in Maldives will be built at a cost of USD 500 million. It is funded by a USD 400 million Line of Credit from the Indian EXIM (Export Import) Bank and a USD 100 million grant from the Indian government.

  • The Border Road Organization (BRO) is making a road map to construct a first-of-its-kind road stretch using steel slag in Arunachal Pradesh border.
