ICSE Class 10 Exam Pattern 2026-27

Group – I

English – I: This paper will consist of five questions which include unseen composition, letter writing, notice & e-mail writing, unseen comprehension passage, and grammar. All five questions are compulsory. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

English – II: This paper will consist of four sections. Section A will have Multiple Choice Questions from Prose, Poetry, and Drama. Section B will have two questions set from Drama, Section C will have two questions from Prose, and Section D will have two questions from Poetry.

All questions in Section A are compulsory. Candidates must attempt one question from each of the three Sections: B, C, and D, and one more question from either of the three sections (Section B, C, or D). In total, candidates must attempt four questions from sections B, C, and D. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours and maximum marks is 80.

Second Language (Hindi): This paper will consist of two sections. Section A (40 marks) is compulsory. Candidates must attempt any four questions from Section B (40 marks), answering at least two question each from the two textbooks that they have studied, and any two questions from any of the same books that they have studied.

Section A includes unseen composition, letter writing, and unseen comprehension passage and grammar. Section B includes structural and short answer questions from the literature section. The time allowed for writing this paper is three hours.

History & Civics: This paper will consist of two parts. Part I (30 marks) will contain multiple choice and short answer questions. All questions from this part are compulsory to attempt. Part II (50 marks) will consist of Section A and Section B. Candidates will be required to answer two out of three questions from Section A and three out of five questions from Section B. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

Geography: This paper will be divided into two parts. Part I (30 marks) will contain two questions. The first will be based on Topographical Map and second will be based on Map of India. All questions from this Part I are compulsory to attempt. Part II (50 marks) will contain short questions which may require answers involving interpretations, sketches, diagrams, graphs, and charts. Candidates will have to attempt any five questions from this part. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

GROUP – II

Mathematics: This paper will be divided into two sections, Section A (40 marks) and Section B (40 marks). All questions from Section A are compulsory. From Section B, candidates will have to answer any four questions out of seven questions. The time allowed for writing this paper is two and a half hours.

Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology): These three papers (physics, chemistry, biology) will be divided into two sections – Section A (40 marks) and Section B (40 marks). All questions from Section A (short answer questions) are compulsory. From Section B, candidates will have to answer any four questions out of six questions. The time allowed for writing these papers is two hours.

Economics: This paper will consist of two sections. Section A will be short answer questions. All questions from Section A are compulsory. From Section B, candidates will have to answer any four questions. This section will consist of questions that will require detailed answers. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours

Commercial Studies: The Commercial Studies paper will be divided into two sections - A and B. Section A is compulsory and will consist of short answer questions. From Section B, candidates have to answer any four questions which will require detailed answers. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours. 

GROUP – III

Computer Applications: This paper will consist of two sections. All questions from Section A (40 marks) are compulsory. This section will contain short answer questions. From Section B (60 marks), candidates have to answer any four questions which will require detailed answers. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

Economic Applications: The Economic Applications paper consists of two sections - A and B. Section A is compulsory and will consist of short answer questions. From Section B, candidates have to attempt any four questions which will require detailed answers. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

Commercial Applications: The Commercial Applications paper consists of two sections - A and B. All questions from Section A are compulsory and will consist of short answer questions. From Section B, candidates have to attempt any four questions which will require detailed answers. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

Home Science: The Home Science paper consists of two sections – Section A and Section B. All questions from Section A are compulsory and will consist of short answer questions. From Section B, candidates have to attempt any four questions which will be long answer questions. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.

Physical Education: The Physical Education paper consists of two sections – Section A and Section B. All questions from Section A are compulsory and will consist of short answer questions. From Section B, candidates have to answer any two questions in total. Each of the two questions must be attempted from any two games of their choice. The questions will be based on the rules of games, the skills required to play a game, and the methods of training of a game. The time allowed for writing this paper is two hours.
