NATIONAL AFFAIRS

  • Forecasting Penetration of Electric Two-Wheelers (e-2W) in India- A Bottom-Up Analysis’ a report has been released by NITI Aayog and Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council [TIFAC]. The report forecasts 100% penetration of electric two wheelers in the Indian market by FY 2026– 27. 
  • Ministry of Heavy Industries & Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has  entered in MoU to create a collaborative ecosystem to offer skill development training in the capital goods sector.
  • Ministry of Science & Technology and Singapore has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Cooperation in the fields of Science, Technology and Innovation which has been approved by cabinet.
  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) signed an agreement to help India’s energy transition efforts, and the world in combating climate change has been approved by cabinet.
  • NITI Aayog in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has unveiled a report titled “Take Home Ration: Good Practices-Across the States/UTs

❱ The Government of India (GoI) launched the National Nutrition Mission (NNM), which is also known as the Scheme for Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN Abhiyaan), with the purpose of reducing under-nutrition by 2% annually.

❱ Take Home Ration provide fortified rations for use at home for pregnant and lactating women, and children between the ages of 6 and 36 months.

  • “Project Surya” as an initiative to train low income women salt pan workers as solar technician or to work in the renewable industry. This project was initiated by ReNew Energy Global with the help of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Self-Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA).
  • Telangana government has inaugurated Technology Hub (T-Hub 2.0), the world’s largest innovation campus in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana.
  • The assessment of States/Union Territories (UTs) under the Business Reforms Action Plan 2020, the 5th edition of this exercise, was announced by Ministry of Finance.

  • NTPC Limited, has announced the commercial operation of the Ramagundam Floating Solar photovoltaic Project in Telangana, which is India’s largest floating solar power plant.
  • Pradhan Mantri - Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PM-FME) Scheme, in the line of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, has completed two years (2020-2022). Objective of this scheme is to empower the unorganized Micro Enterprises to fulfill the aim of formalizing the food processing sector in India.
  • IIE(Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship), Guwahati & IIM- Shillong signed an MoU to Boost Entrepreneurship and startups for Ecosystem in the North eastern Region
  • NITI Aayog has released ‘Mitigation and Management of COVID-19: compendium of Ayush-based practices from States and Union territories (UTs)’ which details information about various Ayush-based initiatives and practices adopted by the States and UTs in India for containing and managing the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • States’ Startup Ranking 2021 was announced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industr Gujarat has been the best Performer State for the third time.
  • The first edition of the “State Ranking Index for NFSA: Creating resilient food systems to optimize the delivery of benefits “was unveiled Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. In this Index Odisha secured 1st rank and followed by Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh among General Category States.
  • The government of Rajasthan will introduce the ‘Right to Health Bill 2022’ in the Rajasthan assembly. It makes Rajasthan the first state in India to propose a guaranteed right to healthcare to its residents.
  • Digital India Week 2022’- was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat to showcase the transformation of India’s digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The theme for Digital India Week 2022- ‘Catalyzing New India’s Techade’.
  • Uttar Pradesh has became the first state in India to connect One District One Product mart with the Open Network for Digital Commerce Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) will focus to increase revenues and access to finance by micro food processing units of India.
  • A new report which has been titled “Harnessing Green Hydrogen: Opportunities for Deep Decarbonisation in India”, by NITI  Aayog in collaboration with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), will facilitate a way to enhance the emergence of a green hydrogen economy, which is critical for India to achieve its net-zero ambitions by
  • 47th Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council 2022 was convened in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the aegis of Ministry of Finance
  • The Ernakulam dairy (Milma) in Kerala is set to become India’s first fully solar powered dairy plant.
  • India’s 1st floating terminal for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at Jaigarh in Maharashtra and the second floating terminal at Jafarabad in Gujarat will also begin operations in the end of 2022.

  • To set up India’s 1st commercial-scale Green Ammonia and Green Methanol projects. For this project NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) & Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) made a collaboration.
  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh announced to set up of Rajendra Prasad Memorial Award in public administration in the field of academic excellence, in memory of the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad.
  • Karnataka is to be the 1st state in India to establish an exclusive Research and Development (R & D) policy. A task force headed by Professor Ashok S. Shettar, the Vice-Chancellor of KLE Technological University Karnataka, has been constituted to ensure its effective implementation.

  • Meeting of Counter-Narcotics Working Group (CNWG) of Indo-United States was held to strongly implement drug law enforcement and the enhancement in the capture of heroin from Afghanistan. The Indian delegation was headed by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) director general S N Pradhan.
  • Ministry of Rural Development has unveiled  the delta ranking of Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission in which Jharkhand secured the1st  position and followed by Puducherry Assam
  • The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai has now become India’s first railway station to have an Augmented Reality experience. This technology will facilitate passengers at the station to get a real-time digitized timetable with a dedicated scrolling screen and railway information.
  • 3-Member Commission for Delimitation of Municipal Wards in Delhi has been established by Ministry of Home Affairs. This commission is to assist the Central Government in delimitation of municipal wards in Delhi and carrying out other functions related to it. Chairman of this commission is Vijay Kumar Dev.
  • United States based GE Healthcare announced that its 5G Innovation Lab will be established in Bangalore, Karnataka. This is first lab of GE Healthcare across the globe.

❱ He inaugurated 3-day summit of ‘Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam’ at International Cooperation and Convention Centre, in Varanasi for the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.

It is Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the welfare and rehabilitation of children; Mission Vatsalya has a road map for achieving development and child protection priorities that are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Kharchi Festival- traditional festival of Tripura; where prayers are offered to 14 deities, in presence of thousands of devotees.
  • Department of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare  (of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare)  & the International Rice Research Institute has entered in MoU for the commencement of Phase -2 activities of IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) to boost food and nutrition security in the South Asian region.
  • “Bal Vatikas”- have been inaugurated by Uttarakhand Government in Anganwadi Kendras across the state to improve the pre-primary education system thus Uttarakhand Became The First State to Implement National Education Policy at Pre-Primary Level.
  • India’s first e-waste eco-park in Delhi will be established by Delhi Government in collaboration with IIT Delhi. Delhi is the 5th largest producer of e-waste in India, after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

  • ‘India Rankings 2022- Ranking of Higher Educational Institutions on Performance’. It is prepared by National Institutional Ranking Framework. The list has been topped by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras followed by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru.
  • Jagriti -a Mascot for Empowering Consumers & Creating Awareness; has been launched by Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. Mascot will also display the tagline “Jago Grahak Jago”.
  • Apex committee has been set up by the Ministry of Defense; this committee is headed by Ajay Kumar. This committee will provide valuable inputs in the planning and execution of any projects and suggest improvements.
  • In early 2023, India will get its first-ever underwater train in Kolkata (West Bengal); with a distance of 16.34 km east-west corridor that ends under the river Hooghly, a distributary of the Ganga.

  • Naari Ko Naman’ scheme launched by Himachal Pradesh government to provide 50 % concession on fares in Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses to women commuters within the state boundaries.
  • Medical Insurance Scheme for State Employees and Pensioners has been launched by Kerala government
  • Indian Bank & Government of Haryana has entered in MoU for the distribution of mobile phones to consumers through e-Unified Payment Interface (e-UPI) system.

  • The Punjab Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for becoming a member of the global network called Under2 Coalition to address the issues of climate change
  • Swami Vivekananda Yuva Shakti Yojana aims to empowering rural youth launched by Karnataka government.
  • Vidyanidhi scholarship programme, a state Government initiative to provide education for children of farmers; this programme has been launched by Karnataka government.

  • RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) 2022 held in Hawaii hosted by US Navy in which 26 nations are participating. RIMPAC 2022’s theme is “Capable Adaptive Partners”.
  • As per the ‘Asia Pacific Sustainability Index 2021’ released by Knight Frank, 4 Indian cities made it to the top 20 of the Asia Pacific (APAC) Sustainably Led Cities Index Ranking.

❱ Bangalore, Karnataka, was ranked 14th in the APAC region in the Gold standard category.

❱ other three Indian cities, Delhi, Hyderabad   and Mumbai, came in 17th, 18th, and 20th, respectively, attaining the silver standard category.

  • As per report of the Israel-based Startup Blink’s ‘Global Startup Ecosystem Index (GSEI) 2022’, Bengaluru, (Karnataka), has the “strongest startup ecosystem in India” with ranks 8th among the world’s top 10 cities. The list is topped by San Francisco. Top 3 in Global Ranking Countries: 1st The United States of America, 2nd The United Kingdom, 3rd
  • As per the QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2023, released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Mumbai ranked at 103 has been emerged as India’s highest ranked student city. The other Indian cities in the rankings include Bangalore (114), Chennai (125) and New Delhi (129).

  • The European Commission has adopted introducing proposals to restore damaged ecosystems and revive nature back to its health across Europe. The Commission also proposes to reduce the use and risk of chemical pesticides by 50% by 2030.
  • The 8th session of India-Armenia Intergovernmental Commission   on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological, Cultural and Educational Cooperation was held in the capital city of Armenia, Yerevan. During this event Mahatma Gandhi Auditorium was unveiled at the Yerevan State Medical University.
  • The United Nations Ocean Conference 2022 was co-hosted by the governments of Kenya and Portugal   at the Lisbon, Portugal. The theme was “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions.”

❱ The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030 establishes a shared framework to ensure that ocean science can fully support countries’ efforts to sustainably manage the ocean.

  • India & Madagascar government has entered in MoU for participating in the e-VBAB (eVidyaBharati and e-AarogyaBharati) network project. The agreement comes under the programme and vision of the Ministry of Higher Education to promote online education in Madagascar.
  • Croatia will become the 20th member of the Euro-Zone to adopt Euro currency from 1 January 2023, replacing its current currency Croatian Kuna.
  • The World Economic Forum released the Global Gender Gap Index for 2022, where India ranks low at 135th place among total of 146 countries. Iceland topped the global ranking followed by Finland and Norway.
  • The TIME Magazine came out with its first list of the World’s Greatest Places of 2022. In this list India’s Ahmedabad (Gujarat), and Kerala cities are among the 50 extraordinary destinations to explore.
  • The first virtual summit of I2U2 (India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America) was held on July 14, 2022. During the First I2U2 Leaders’ Virtual Summit 2022, the UAE has announced an investment of $ 2 billion to develop a series of Integrated Food Parks across India, to address rising demand in South and West Asia.
  • Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh has been nominated as the first- ever SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital during the period 2022-23 at the 22nd Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) under a new rotating initiative for promotion of people-to-people contacts and tourism among the member states.

  • Forecasting Penetration of Electric Two-Wheelers (e-2W) in India- A Bottom-Up Analysis’ a report has been released by NITI Aayog and Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council [TIFAC]. The report forecasts 100% penetration of electric two wheelers in the Indian market by FY 2026– 27.

    • Take Home Ration provide fortified rations for use at home for pregnant and lactating women, and children between the ages of 6 and 36 months.
