The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine in all Medical Institutions holds a standard NEET examination for admission to undergraduate courses (Section 14, Act 2020). NEET Exam Overview
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced NEET during the 2013-14 academic year. Its primary objective is to choose eligible candidates for medical seats in India. This medical entrance exam is compulsory for overseas candidates to take admission to undergraduate courses in a medical university in the country.
The Supreme Court declared in 2016 that this examination will be the only one to fill all the Quota seats in each state and the country. It also applies to candidates who are opting for private colleges in our country. The candidates belonging to the General category must have at least 50% marks. In the case of SC, ST, and OBC candidates this criteria is 40% marks minimum.
The All India Quota Seats offer 15% reservation for NRIs, OCIs, and PIOs. However, candidates belonging to Jammu and Kashmir do not fall under this category.
Students who are taking or have already taken their 12th board exam may apply for NEET. In addition, they have to clear the board or any other equivalent exam for confirming their admission to their respective colleges. These candidates should have Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as their passing subjects.
While the upper age limit is 25 years for the exam, the minimum limit is seventeen years. This limit has a relaxation of five years for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwBD categories.

NEET Exam Pattern
The NEET examination has a duration of three hours and twenty minutes and you have to answer it using paper and pen. Its format is objective-type Multiple Choice Questions only.
During your NEET preparation, you should be aware that the paper will comprise 200 MCS. The Physics portion will require answers to 45 questions with 180 marks. Section A is compulsory but Section B will consist of 15 questions and you have to answer 10 questions out of them. The same pattern is applicable in the case of Chemistry. In the Biology paper, candidates have to answer 90 questions based on Botany and Zoology. This section contains 360 marks. Altogether, you will have to answer 180 questions that cover 720 marks.
A student will receive 4 marks for each correct answer. However, there will be a deduction of 1 mark for a wrong attempt. An unattempted question will not fetch any marks. Similarly, if you mark more than one option, you will be awarded a zero.
