    Q. How did the invisible man first become visible?

Ans: The invisible man stepped into mud and this made his footprints visible to two boys.

    Q. Why was he wandering the streets?

Ans: His landlord had ejected Griffin and in a rage of revenge, Griffin burnt down the house. Thus, he was homeless and since he wanted to be invisible he was also clothless and wandering the streets.

    Q. Why does Mrs. Hall find the scientist eccentric?

Ans: Mrs. Hall finds the scientist eccentric because of his uncommon appearance and that he had asked not to be disturbed as his face had been damaged in some experiment.

    Q. What curious episode occurs in the study?

Ans: When Mrs. Hall and her husband hear some noise from the study, they barge in but find that though, money has been stolen, the study is empty of any suspect.

    Q. What other extraordinary things happen at the inn?

Ans: Apart from money being stolen from the study, when Mr. and Mrs. Hall enter Griffin’s apparently empty room, they are accosted by a moving hat and furniture. When they call the constable to arrest Griffin, he disrobes, becomes invisible and escapes.

    Think About It :

    Q. “Griffin was rather a lawless person.” Comment.

Ans: Griffin was lawless because whenever he was angry, he resorted to harm others. When his landlord ejected him, he burned the place down. When he was in need of clothes and food, he robbed a store. When he ran out of money at the inn, he again stole it from the study. Also, when confronted with all the strange happenings, he hit everyone who came near, even the constable who had come to arrest him and escaped.

    Q. How would you assess Griffin as a scientist?

Ans: Griffin was a brilliant scientist. He had, after much experimentation, made a drug which could turn a human invisible. However, along with brilliance, one needs to be a good human being to be great. Griffin was a lawless person; he had been always doing the wrong things. He was very short tempered and would resort to violence on getting angry. As a scientist, it is one’s duty to invent things for the good of mankind to ensure that they help the inhabitants of our earth. Griffin had no such characteristics. He used his brilliant invention for all the wrong things namely stealing and hurting others.

    Talk About It :

    Q. Would you like to become invisible? What advantages and disadvantages do you foresee if you did?

Ans: Yes, I would very much like to become invisible. It would have a whole lot of advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages: Being able to go wherever one wanted, doing whatever one wished without being detected, countries could use this technology to know the enemy’s whereabouts etc.
Disadvantages: Not being able to enjoy with friends, lawlessness would increase, it would be a disaster if it went into the hands of anti-social elements of the society.

    Q. Are there forces around us that are invisible, for example, magnetism? Are there aspects of matter that are ‘invisible’ or not visible to the naked eye? What would the world be like if you could see such forces or such aspects of matter?

Ans: Yes, there are many forces in nature that are not visible to the naked eye. Scientists know that there is still a lot of stuff yet to be seen or studied. If we could see all these ‘invisible’ forces, may be it would make our life on earth more simple, maybe we would know the mysteries of nature that have yet not been solved.

    Q. What makes glass or water transparent (what is the scientific explanation for this)? Do you think it would be scientifically possible for a man to
become invisible, or transparent? (Keep in mind that writers of science fiction have often turned out to be prophetic in their imagination!)

Ans: Water is transparent because it doesn’t absorb light. Like air, it has a low reflectivity, which enables light to pass through it. It may not be scientifically possible for a man to become invisible because I believe that would involve changing the very structural units of human body. However, one never knows how much progress will man make in science. We may be able to become invisible one day.
