C.V. Raman, also known as the great Indian physicist Chandrasekhar Venkata Raman, was born on November 7, 1888, in Trichirapalli, Tamil Nadu. Raman’s father was a physics teacher and therefore grew up loving the subject. He was an excellent student from the start. He passed his matriculation examination at the University of Madras at the tender age of 12 as a bright and promising young man. 

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1924. In 1928 he adopted the “Raman effect”. For this, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
